Why Free CMS Can be Dangerous

1.   Free open source is not a turnkey operation.  It is not as simple as they might say it is.  It takes time and money up front to get things off the ground.

2.   There is no help desk, no live support, and no open tickets.  Users must rely on forums to answer their complex questions while problems on the site remain while still live.

3.   Many sites are editable because the pages have text but very little other functionality.   Advanced Web 2.0 websites abilities such as blogs, video, image galleries, cannot be incorporated into these free start up sites.

     4.   Free CMS should not be a disposable application – it’s your website platform.  Everyone knows that websites are incorporating more and more business functionality.  Why trust that to an application that is designed to have a limited growth path?

5.   Free CMS does not mean easy.  Users are inhibited from making changes, ending up in a static website.

6.   The road is littered with abandoned CMS open source projects.  Without a CMS company, who is going to maintain the code or expand the functionality?  Are you in that business? Why should that be your job when it happens?

7.   Just because you can build it does not mean you should!!

"Free" CMS can be a huge waste of time and money for you and your business.  Don't get tricked.   Call someone who knows what they are doing in the CMS world! Please use the "contact us" feature on the left hand navigation of this page.
